Daffodils on the green roof

Although our green roof isn't particularly deep, there is enough soil for some of the smaller varieties of daffodils, such as Tete-a-tete (which is particularly successful).

The flowers are a reasonable size, but the stems and, especially, the bulbs are quite a bit smaller than normal.

At the moment (early April), the daffodils are the main source of colour on the roof, as the few snowdrops that came up this year have already gone.

They grow particularly well in the shelter of some logs we've laid across the roof, near the back (as can be seen in the photo above), where the soil is a bit shallower and can get rather dry.

Having the logs means we've been able to build up more soil beside them and they help retain the moisture.
